Geraldine "Jerry" B. Briggs, age 86 of Greenville, passed away at 3:25 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at Fair Oaks Nursing Home in Greenville.
Prayer services will be held at 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Donnell - Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville with Father Vic Kaltenbach officiating. Interment will be in Chicago, Illinois.
Visitation is from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Donnell - Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. For those who desire, memorials may be made to the Bond County Hospice or the Briggs Family.
Geraldine Bernadine, the daughter of Louis and Lillian (Melzer) Gorden, was born August 8, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois. Jerry grew up in Chicago, attended the public schools and graduated from high school in Chicago. She worked as a waitress in Chicago and then opened her own place, Jerry's Bar near Wriggly Field. Jerry raised her family in Chicago and moved to Greenville 1984. Mrs. Briggs has worked as a caregiver for many years in Bond County.
Geraldine was married to Phillip Abraham who preceded her in death. She then was united in marriage on November 9, 1985 to Floyd E. Briggs, at the Smithboro Baptist Church by Rev. Oral Grigg.
She is survived by her husband, children; Phillip Abraham of Amery, Wisconsin, Robert (Robin) Briggs of Greenville, Illinois, Jacqueline Jones of Oxford, Wisconsin, Melody, Mrs. Jim Davis of Chicago, Illinois and Linda Abraham of Chicago, Illinois. Jerry was the loving grandmother of 12 grandchildren, 2 grandchildren preceded in death, 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters Lenora, Mrs. Andrew Romancek of Chicago, Elaine Mrs. Tom Tucker of Niles, and Carol, Mrs. Pete Gennunso of Chicago. She is preceded in death by one sister Darlene Bast, and 5 brothers: Jack, Ronald, Norbert, Louis, and Gilbert Gordon.
Jerry is a member of Utlaut Hospital Auxillary, worked at the Thrift Shop and a member of her Church, the St. Lawrence Catholic Church of Greenville
