Dorothy Goodloe Broadwater, 94, formerly of Big Stone Gap, Va., passed away at Sentara Williamsburg Community Hospital, Williamsburg, Va., on Dec. 4, 2004, from complications following surgery.
She was loved by all who knew her, and she touched many lives with her kindness and concern for others. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
Born Dorothy Holmes Goodloe on Nov. 10, 1910, in Big Stone Gap, Va., she was the daughter of William T. and Carrie B. Goodloe.
She received a degree in education from Longwood College, Farmville, Va., before returning home to teach school at East Stone Gap. In 1937 She married William Clinton Broadwater, also of Big Stone Gap, and the couple moved to Middlesboro, Ky., where they lived until her husband's death in 1995. She then moved to Williamsburg, Va., to be near her two children.
She is survived by her son, John D. Broadwater and wife, Sharon, of Williamsburg, Va.; daughter, Caroline B. Mayes, also of Williamsburg; a brother, George M. Goodloe of Pompano Beach, Fla.; two granddaughters, Jennifer B. Miller and husband, Todd, and April B. Clark and husband, Rob; and three great-grandsons, Noah and Lucas Miller and Ayres Clark.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 10, at Glencoe Cemetery in Big Stone Gap, with the Rev. Mr. Robert Cornwell presiding.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to the Mountain Empire Community College Foundation Scholarship Fund, 3441 Mountain Empire Road, Big Stone Gap, VA 24219.
