Antonio Gonzales, age 100, a resident of Las Vegas, N.M., for the past seven years and former 45-year resident of Raton, N.M., passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2007 at the N.M. Behavioral Institute (Ponderosa I-4).
He was born in Tecolote, N.M., on April 10, 1907, to the late Luis Gonzales and Juanita Valdez Gonzales.
He was united in marriage to the late Isidra Lopez. He retired from the Santa Fe Railroad where he was employed for 44 years as Laborer.
He served in the United States Army during World War II as Private 1st Class. He was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and Ribbon w/4 Bronze Service Stars, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and Ribbon.
A lifelong Catholic, he attended Our Lady of Sorrows Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Luis and Juanita Gonzales; wife: Isidra Gonzales; brothers: Luis Gonzales, Jr. and Eduardo Gonzales; sisters: Margarita Martinez, Sabinita Hickman, Lucinda Montano, Lola Pacheco and Dulicinia Rodriguez.
He is survived by his nephews: Leo Gonzales and wife Elaine and Patrick Gonzales and wife Bertha all of Las Vegas, N.M.; numerous: other nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Rosary devotional services will be conducted this evening at 7 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with Father C. John Brasher as celebrant. Interment will follow at the Tecolote Cemetery in Tecolote, N.M., with the following serving as casket bearers: Leo Gonzales, Patrick Gonzales, Remijo Romero, T.J. Esquibel, Jason Smith and Clarence Romero.
