MRS. WALTER D. FERRIS
Mrs. Walter D. Ferris, nee Laura Grace Goltry, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Goltry, was born near Russell, Iowa, Dec. 18th, 1896. When she was almost ten years of age her parents moved onto a farm near University Park, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood.
On Feb. 12, 1916, she was united in marriage with Walter D. Ferris, and to them one child, Walter, who is now nine years old was born. Besides her husband and son, and her parents, she is survived by five brothers: Edwin Goltry, Chicago; Ernest Goltry, Otis, Colorado; Clement Goltry, Chicago; Clell and Ellsworth at home; and three sisters; Mrs. Cordia Anderson, Oskaloosa; Helen Goltry at home; and Mrs. Esther Linge, Saginaw, Mich.
Mrs. Ferris had been the victim of a lingering illness during the past two years, and had been confined to her bed for the last eight months. During her illness she suffered intensely, but she bore it with patience and genuine Christian fortitude. She often spoke of her suffering as being nothing as compared to what Christ suffered for her.
She joined Central M. E. church, Oskaloosa, in 1916, and remained loyal and faithful in that relationship until death. Her sincerity was perfectly apparent to all who knew her. She sought to be careful not to profess a higher standard than she was living. During her sickness she talked freely and frequently concerning her trust in the Lord, and expressed willingness and readiness to go when the divine summons came.
Mrs. Ferris had a pleasing personality and made friends easily. Her facial expression was characterized by gladness and cheerfulness. She scattered sunshine wherever she went. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and a woman of sterling Christian character. Her departure brings a keen sense of loss, not only to her family, but to a multitude of friends.
At 3:45 p.m., May 24, 1928, she was set free from the sufferings of the body and taken by her Lord into the heaven of eternal rest.
Funeral services were held at Central M. E. church, Saturday, May 26, 1928, at 2 o'clock, Rev. S. H. Turbeville officiating. Interment was made in the Forest Cemetery, Oskaloosa. Music was furnished by the Ladies Quartette of John Fletcher College, with Miss Price at the organ. - Oskaloosa Times-Globe
