Clifford was unmarried and his death certificate lists his occupation as teamster. He had been receiving treatment at the Tuberculosis Sanitarium for several weeks when he died in Branch Hospital in Cincinnati of tuberculosis at the age of 34.
His brother William Franklin Golden and his cousin Cora Virginia Hickman survived him.
