Julia Godfrey Johnson, 65, of Waynesboro, Virginia, formerly of Clifton Forge, went to be with the Lord, surrounded by her loving children.
She was born in Eagle Rock, Virginia, a daughter to the late Charles B. Godfrey Sr. and Gaynell (Burks) Godfrey.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Ray Johnson; one brother, Nelson Godfrey; and two sisters, Mary Young and Brenda Arnold. She was a Certified Nurses Assistant for over 20 years, and retired at University of Virginia Health South. She was a member of Jackson Memorial Church of God in Christ in Iron Gate, Virginia. She served as church mother and Sunday school Superintendant at Temple of Deliverance in Charlottesville.
Left to cherish her memory are her five children, Carnetta R. Chambers of Fishersville, John W. Spinner III of Waynesboro, Gaynell C. Spinner of Norfolk, Angela N. Swingler and husband, George ,of Waynesboro, and Julia Maylon Spinner of Waynesboro; three brothers, Edward Godfrey and wife, Dreama, Earsey Godfrey, and Charles Godfrey Jr. and wife, Lillian, all of Clifton Forge; 10 grandchildren, Rondale, Quania, Joseph, Jonathan, Tishanna, Mirakle, Summer, Vincent, Alexandria, and Trinitee; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8 p.m. Thursday, May 17, 2012, at McDow Funeral Home in Waynesboro, and other times at 105 Woodlyn Court, Waynesboro. A service was conducted Friday, May 18, 2012, at Main Street Baptist Church, 920 Main Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia. Interment followed at Alleghany Memorial Park in Covington.
