Retired Coal Operator Dies After Long Illness; Funeral Services Tomorrow

WINDBER, Dec 13. – Adolph Godel, aged 73 years, of Eighth Street, this place, one of the best-known residents of Somerset County, died late yesterday afternoon, following an illness of about one year. The deceased was born in Germany and came to this country when he was eighteen years old, settling in New Jersey. He served during the Civil War, after which he removed to Tioga County, Pa., later going to Philipsburg. Mr. Godel came to Windber about 1897. He was a veteran coal operator, having retired from the business about eight years ago.
The deceased is survived by his widow, Mrs. Christiana Godel, and the following children: David Godel, of Johnstown, who is serving on the jury in the Tompkins murder case on trial at Ebensburg; Peter Godel, of Altoona; Fred Godel of Akron, OH.; Mrs. Nick Latz, of this place; Mrs. T. D. Parfitt, of Wilkinsburg; Mrs. Henry A. Kilmer, of Wilmerding.
Funeral will be tomorrow afternoon from the Scalp Level Lutheran Church. Interment will be made in the Lutheran Cemetery. The body has been prepared for burial by Undertaker G. C. Meek.
