Verna L. Gober, age 74, of rural Oronogo, Mo, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, at the Carthage Health and Rehabilitation Center in Carthage, Mo, following one year of failing health.
Verna was born Dec. 5, 1933, in Jasper, Mo, the daughter of Lee and Beatrice (Mitchell) Spoon. She has been a resident of the rural Jasper area most of her life. Verna spent her days watching over her family as a homemaker. She was a member of the New Providence Baptist Church, north of Oronogo.
She married Gerald L. Gober on May 26, 1957, in Lamar, Mo. He survives. Additional survivors include two sons, Scotty Gober and his wife, Jana, of Erie, Kan, and David Gober and his wife, Carrisa, of Carthage, one daughter, Dolores Lococo and her husband, Leonard, of St. Charles, Mo; one sister, Dorothy Probert, of Jasper; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Verna was preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter, Dawn Nicole Lococo; and one sister, Iris Winder.
Funeral services have been scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 4, at 1:30 pm at the Hedge-Lewis Chapel. Rev. Larry Shoemaker will officiate. Burial will immediately follow in Medoc Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening, Oct. 3, from 6-7 pm. Memorial contributions are requested for the New Providence Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
