Jacqueline Elmer Glass, 90, died peacefully Sunday, June 10, 2012, in Scottsdale. She was born April 4, 1922, in Washington D.C., the second of two children born to Charles P. Elmer and Dorothy Hall Elmer. Her brother was Carlos Elmer. Her family moved to Kingman when she was a small girl and she spent her childhood there.

After graduating valedictorian of Kingman High School, she attended Stephens College in 1940. Two years later, 1942 she finished her bachelor's degree at the University of Arizona majoring in Spanish and Archeology. During and after college Jackie was active in her sorority Alpha Chi Omega.

After leaving the UofA, she worked for the United States Embassy as a translator for the government in Venezuela. While working for the embassy, a very handsome young man came in and asked to use the phone. It was love at first sight. Dr. John Glass from Oklahoma returned home and immediately sent her a telegram asking her to marry him. Of course she said, "yes" and they were married in Kingman in 1946.

John and Jackie made their first home in Tolleson where he practiced dentistry. Their first son, John Jr. was born Jan. 20, 1947. They then packed up their bags and moved to Morenci to open a new dental practice. While in Morenci, two more children were born, Elizabeth and Charles. In 1951 they moved to Phoenix, where they built their new home and dental office. Two more children were born in Phoenix, Jean Mary and Bonnie.

Jackie was a loving full time mother, active Girl Scout leader, avid bridge player, Mary Kay beauty consultant, and active with her sorority Alpha Chi Omega. She was also very active in her church, Encanto Community, coordinating the weddings and receptions. Jackie and John loved to travel, and traveled around the world. They also enjoyed boating and spending time with their family and friends in their home in Cholla Bay, Mexico.

In 1950, John and Jackie purchased a summer home in Eagar, where they would go every summer to escape the Phoenix heat. John practiced dentistry and enjoyed fly fishing, while Jackie played bridge and enjoyed the beautiful White Mountains with the children. Of all the places they lived and traveled, the White Mountains was their favorite place to be.

In 1982 John passed away and Jackie remained in Scottsdale, however, still spending most of the summer in Eagar. She loved to sit on the front porch in Eagar watch the sunset, sip a little wine, and wave at everyone who drove or walked by.

She is survived by her son, John Glass of Phoenix; daughter Liz Claggett of Las Vegas, Nev.; son Charles Glass of Santa Fe, N.M.; daughters Jeannie Flood of Chino Valley, and Bonnie Glass of Scottsdale. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Ryan Glass, Jeff Glass, Chelsea Glass, Seton Claggett, Sean Claggett, Tyson Claggett, Jasper Glass, Laurel Flood and Skyler Flood and eight great-grandchildren.

Jackie will be laid to rest during a graveside service at 10 a.m. Aug. 4, at the Springerville Cemetery. Her family will host a celebration of Jackie's life with a reception at noon at the Rode Inn in Springerville. All family and friends are invited to attend.
