Mrs. Gladstone Was Native of Andes
Mrs. Effie Gladstone, a native and long-time resident of Andes, died last week Wednesday at the Ratcliffe rest home in Laurens, where she had been a patient for two years.
Her funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at the Bookhout funeral home in Oneonta. Rev. R. V. E. Wright, pastor of the Andes United Presbyterian church, officiated. Burial is in the Valleyview cemetery near South Kortright.
Surviving Mrs. Gladstone are two sons, T. Herbert Gladstone of Otego and Donald Gladstone of West Henrietta, N. Y., 23 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-greatgrandchild. Also surviving are a brother, James Middlemast of Adams, N. Y;, and three sisters, Mrs. Agnes. Rutherford of Walton, Mrs. Ellen Quick of Meridale and Mrs. Elizabeth McDonald of Plattsburgh. Kenneth Gladstone of Mahwah, N. J., and Wendell Gladstone of Tucson, Ariz., are her stepsons, and Mrs. Arnold Conine of Prattsville is a stepdaughter.
Mrs. Gladstone was born Dec. 23, 1883 to William and Agnes C. Mein Middlemost. She became the wife of Harrison A. Gladstone March 7, 1917 at Delhi. He died Feb. 9, 1963.
Mr. and Mrs. Gladstone had operated a large dairy farm in Andes after coming there from Laurens in 1943. She had also lived in Treadwell and other nearby communities.
