The story surrounding May Bullock is, in my opinion, an interesting one. May's husband and the father of her two children was a wealthy man by the time of his death. A famed criminal lawyer, John Joseph "Joe" Bullock, had also been a District Attorney in San Mateo county, CA.

Following their divorce "Joe" met Isabella Blanche "Belle" Fallon, the daughter of one-time San Jose mayor Thomas Fallon. "Belle" had been married to Nathaniel Jones "Nat" Brittan. Together Belle and Nat had five children. Sadly their only son died in 1880 just a little over a month after his birth. Four daughters, including twins, would be born to them. Upon Nathaniel's death in 1912 the fortune he had amassed would be extensive. Belle, guided either by common sense or by the law's dictation, hired a lawyer to help her with her large estate. That lawyer J. J. Bullock, would also become her next husband.
