GIRMUS, RUDOLPH—Rudolph Girmus was born to James and Anna Matejka Girmus on a farm near Geneva, on Nov. 16, 1927. He was one of a family of ten boys and two girls. He passed away at the York General Hospital on Feb. 16, 1998. Rudy did the family farming while his brothers served the United States Armed Forces during World War II.
Rudy married Lenoris M. Elznic at York, on Feb. 16, 1952. Three children were born to this marriage. Rudy was baptized at the Ohiowa United Methodist church in April of 1957, and accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior.
Rudy chose to become a steward of the soil as his lifetime career. He farmed his entire lifetime north of Ohiowa. Retirement was not part of his life as he was involved in tending the land he owned north of town until his death. Playing cards and visiting were his favorite pastimes.
He thoroughly loved his family and looked forward to their visits to the farm. A visit from grandchildren and great-grandchildren added a twinkle to his eyes.
He was not a distance traveler, but enjoyed a Sunday afternoon tour of the neighborhood farms to see how the crops were growing, which series was making the most progress, or how the old familiar sites had changed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Anna; brothers, Edward, Frank, James, Bill, Emil and Johnnie; two brothers-in-law, Ervin Odvody and Hubert Koehn; son-in-law, Jerry Maruska.
He is survived by his wife, Lenoris; daughters, Jeanne Maruska, Sherrie Landis and husband, Carroll, and Nancy Girmus; grandchildren, Todd Maruska, Candice Maruska, Sarah, Shauna and Brendon Landis; great-grandchildren, Brady and Cassie Maruska; brothers, Joe and wife, Sylvia, Raymond and wife, Donna, and Adolph and wife, Lynette; sisters, Mildred Odvody and Helen Koehn; sisters-in-law, Emilye Girmus, Bernice Girmus, Wilma and Louise Girmus.
Funeral services were conducted on Feb. 19, from the United Methodist Church in Geneva with Rev. Dennis Linton-Hendrick officiating. Musical selections “The Old Rugged Cross,” “Blest Be the Tie That Binds” and “The Lord’s Prayer” rendered by Delwin Myers accompanied by Susan Kleinschmidt.
Casket bearers were David Elznic, Eugene Girmus, Richard Girmus, Richard Kottas, Robert Kottas, and Joe Monteforte Jr.
Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery.
