Mary K. (Gilmartin) Corbo age 87 of Maumee, OH passed away on Monday July 4, 2011 in her home surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born in Toledo, OH on March 13, 1924 to Robert I. and Kathryn (Coy) Gilmartin.
Mary was a graduate of Maumee High School, The University of Toledo and a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. She taught at West Port, CT; West Dearborn, MI; Toledo, OH and was a substitute teacher at Maumee High School. She married Raymond F. Corbo at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Maumee on July 17, 1948.
Mary generously shared her love with her family and many friends. She was a tireless worker for the Democratic Party and was pleased to receive an invitation from Jimmy Carter to his inaugural. Mary was thankful for Carolyn's support that enabled her to in her home.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Raymond F. Corbo; sons, Daniel (Elizabeth) Corbo of Cincinnati, OH; John (Patricia) Corbo of Burnsville, MN; Michael (Diana) Corbo of Mission Viejo, CA; daughters, Elizabeth (Richard) Witter of Toledo and Carolyn Corbo of Maumee. Also surviving are grandchildren, Samuel Corbo, Sarah Corbo, Lindsay, Kelly, Andrew and Charles Corbo, James (Britton) Witter, Michael, John and Patrick Witter; and Grace, Emily and Daniel Corbo. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert Gilmartin and a sister, Gloria Potter.
Friends may call at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home 501 Conant St. Maumee on Friday July 8, 2011 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm with a scripture service beginning at 7:30 pm. Funeral services will begin in the funeral home on Saturday at 9:30 am followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:00 am at St. Joseph's Church, Maumee. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Toledo Museum of Art, St. Joseph's Church or the charity of the donor's choice.
