Margaret, or Peggy as she was always known, was born in Clydebank, Dunbartonshire, to Charles Gillon and Agnes Hay. She was the last of 7 children.

Her father, Charles, and her 2 brothers, Charlie and Tommy, emigrated to America in 1922 to Detroit, Michigan, for Charles to work for Ford Motor Company.

In 1924 Margaret and Agnes Gillon traveled from Liverpool, England, to the port of Quebec, where they landed on September 21st. The ship was "The Marloch" formerly called, "the Victorian."

They stayed in Windsor, Ontario. Border Crossing documents show that Agnes crossed over into Detroit from Windsor,Canada, to "visit" on Sept 25, 1924. Agnes was 45 years old and Peggy was 12. We know that they stayed until it was time to go back to Windsor and return when their "number came up."

Her father Charles and sons were living at 3306 Kirby in Detroit. We're not sure about how they got from Quebec into Windsor, but we think they took another boat into Montreal and then a train to Windsor. Mom and Grandma crossed "legally" from Windsor into Detroit on July 14, 1925.

On the 15th of October,1932, Peggy married Elvin Lysle McClelland in Detroit, Michigan and then lived most of their married life in Royal Oak, Oakland County in Michigan.

They had 2 daughters, Nancy and Barbara. Peggy passed away at the home of her daughter Barbara Lewis, on October 1, 1999, at the age of 88.
