Helen Gilliland Brown, 80, of Madison, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, at King's Daughters' Hospital.
She was born Aug. 25, 1927, in Pinehurst, N.C., the daughter of Leslie Sr. and Lula Jane Byrd Gilliland. She was raised in Pinehurst and was a 1944 graduate of Pinehurst High School. Due to her husband's work, their family moved often and had lived in Princeton, Clinton, New Albany and Bloomington. They lived in Madison for the past 30 years. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed dancing, especially the jitterbug, sewing, knitting, reading and preparing meals for her family.
She is survived by her husband, Richard M. "Dick" Brown, whom she married Sept. 22, 1956; two sons, Jim Brown of Soddy Daisy, Tenn., and Mike Brown of Hanover; one sister, Betty Lou Vigneault of Norfolk, Va.; one brother, Ralph G. Gilliland of Greensboro, N.C.; four grandsons; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her twin sister, Ruth Baine; and two brothers, Edwin Gilliland and Leslie Gilliland Jr.
The funeral was at Trinity United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
