Gillespie came to Lafayette when a young man and embarked in the grocery business, operating a store at Sixteenth and Kossuth, known as the Gillespie-Spencer grocery. Later, he was a partner in the Worthington-Cillespie grocery store at the same location, until 1907. That year he entered the store fixture business, and for the past several years had operated the Gillespie Restaurant Supply company, with his son, Robert Gillespie, on lower Columbia street. On Jan. 19, 1898, he married Clara E.
Greeley, who died several years ago. He was a member of Central Presbyterian church, also the T. P. A. and U.
C. T. He leaves five daughters: Mrs. Alma Atkinson, Fort Wayne; Mrs. Ethel Smith, Atlanta, Mrs. Rhea Dellinger, Oak Glen. Mrs. Lois Jane Dawson, Seattle, and Miss Mary Louise Gillespie, at home: two sons. Russell Gillespie, Grand Rapids. and Robert Gillespie, at home; also a sister, Mrs. Anna B. Crawford, Steelton, and three brothers, John Gillespie, Fort Lauderdale, and Gilbert and Stuart Gillespie, Monticello. Friends may call at the Rogers and Henderson funeral home after noon Wednesday. Services will be held there Thursday at 2 p. Rev. W. R. Graham. D. officiating Burial in Spring Vale cemetery.
