Martha Gilchrist Adams, 90, of West, died early Friday morning, Nov. 26, 2010. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Bold Springs Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.
Martha was born in Ross, Texas, to the late David and Nettie (Herbelin) McMahan. She attended schools in Abbott and graduated from West High School in 1936. On June 2, 1938 she was united in marriage to William L. "Bill" Gilchrist in Fairbanks. On January 17, 1997, Martha was united in marriage to Johnny S. Adams in West. Martha was a mother, homemaker and worked in the junior high school cafeteria for the Cy-Fair I.S.D. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of West and of the Order of the Eastern Star Lodge in Waco. Martha enjoyed sewing, knitting, fishing, and camping. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Martha was preceded in death by her first husband, William, on June 10, 1995; her second husband, Johnny, on August 6, 2007; brothers, Hollis McMahan, Robert McMahan, Artie McMahan, Burl McMahan and Murl McMahan; and sisters, Vera Spruce, Annie Ramsey, Arlecy Davis, Velma Elrod and Laura McMahan.
Survivors include sons, James L. Gilchrist and wife, Karen, of Waco, William F. Gilchrist and wife, Arlene, of Sealy, and David N. Gilchrist, of Houston; daughters, Mary J. Summers and husband, A.B., of West, and Doris J. Maywald and husband, Archie, of Tomball; grandchildren, Paula Payne and husband, Larry, Teresa Baranowski and husband, Tim, Butch Maywald and wife, Alisa, Jim Gilchrist and wife, Janet, Ronda Tindell and husband, Jody, Timmy Maywald and wife, Liz, Martha Gilchrist and husband, John Roundtree, Paul Gilchrist, Julie Grubbs and husband, Larin, Tanya Willingham and husband, Nealand, Preston Gilchrist and wife, Lauren, Lori Gilchrist and husband, Jesus, Billy Gilchrist and wife, Anita, Holly Gilchrist and Colin Gilchrist; thirty-nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
