Margaret L. Cooke, 84, Kokomo, passed away at 2:20 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012, at Waterford Place Health Campus. She was born Aug. 21, 1928, the daughter of W. Ralph and Ida May (Bivens) Gideon in Loudon County in Tennessee. On July 4, 1945, in Rossville, Ga., she married James "J.I." Cooke, who preceded her in death on March 18, 1994. Margaret was an employee of Delco Electronics, retiring in 1983 after 31 years of service. She was dedicated to her family and spent countless hours baby-sitting for grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved being outdoors and tending her garden.
Survivors include one son, Terry A. Cooke and wife Mary, of Cutler; two daughters, Gayla Sturtsman, Russiaville, and Kimberly Moralez and husband Paulino, Peru; 11 grandchildren, Rick Lushin, of Brown County, James Lushin, Russiaville, Scott Lushin, Frankfort, Joseph Cooke, Peru, Christopher Cooke, Noblesville, Sarah Cervantes, Peru, Andrew Pressey, Tacoma, Wash., Jacob Pressey, Peru, Kyle Sturtsman, Greentown, Laura Brown, West Middleton, and Dan Jordan, Noblesville; 19 great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Connie Sue Pace, Lenoir City, Tenn., and Patricia Burke and husband Carl, Greenville, Tenn. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two daughters, one granddaughter, two brothers, two sisters, and a son- in-law. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Shirley and Stout Funeral Homes and Crematory, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road. Burial will follow in Kokomo Memorial Park Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11:30 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Margaret's memory may be made to the USO or to St. Jude Children's Hospital with envelopes available at the funeral home.
