Alma G. Freeman, 42, of Statesboro, Ga., peacefully entered eternal rest on Sunday, June 14, 2015, surrounded by her family. She was born in Jacksonville, Fla., on August 3, 1972, but lived most of her life in Statesboro. Alma was probably best known for her great sense of humor and her ability to take a good story and make it great. She had a zest for life that she enjoyed sharing with special people in her life, which began with her children, Mary Peyton and Emma. She had a very close-knit family and often times they would gather for Sunday lunch at her house, where Alma would demonstrate her incredible culinary skills, which she most certainly learned from her Italian mother.

Alma had great rhythm and she left her kids with the love of music, which most often was celebrated with some great dance moves. Her kids were her world and she was very proud of the young ladies that they have become and for their willingness to persevere in spite of great obstacles.

Alma spent much of her working life at Split Ends Salon, where she enjoyed the company of many great clients, all of whom she called friends.

Alma graduated from Statesboro High School and later attended Georgia Southern University. She was a licensed cosmetologist and was a member of several organizations in Bulloch County. She was a member of the Alpha Omega chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. She was a member of the Statesboro Service League, where she finished up her 10-year commitment this year and became a sustaining member. At the Service League, she particularly enjoyed working with the Camp Getaway girls. She was also a member of the Statesboro Cotillion for many years.

Alma is survived by her husband of 18 years, David Freeman; her two daughters, Mary Peyton Freeman and Emma Addison Freeman; her mother, Yolanda D'Aranno Giddens; her father, Joe H. Giddens; her brother, Joe H. Giddens Jr.; her sister, Debra (Chris) Giddens Brown; her brother-in-law, Bowen (Megan) Freeman; her nieces, Annabelle Brown and Mills Freeman; and her nephews, Hudson Brown, Harrison Brown and Robert Freeman. She is also survived by her dachshund, Charlie, who will miss her dearly.

The family will receive visitors at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, June 19, 2015.

The funeral will take place on Saturday at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Statesboro with the Rev. Jimmy Cason officiating. Interment will follow in the Eastside Cemetery in Statesboro. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Joe H. Giddens Jr., Christopher Brown, Bowen Freeman, Keith Hardee, Bird Lynch, Atys Cope and Clay Beaver.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Statesboro Service League at P.O. Box 1425, Statesboro, GA 30459.

Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
