My Grandfather James, died when Dad was 21, of cancer. My Grandmother Vergie May (Hankins) Giddens died while giving birth to my Dad or just a few days after. I only know she was from somewhere in Kansas and half Indian I recall my Dad saying. James and Grandpa John Wesley raised mules and sold them to the US Army.
The fifth child of John and Sarah Giddens was James A. Garfield Giddens. He was born in 1882 and died in 1931. He married V. May Hankins who was born in 1886 and died in 1909. At the time of her death she left 3 small children, Jewell still being in infancy. James A. Garfield returned home with his young children and his mother, Sarah Jane Giddens helped to raise them, while he helped his father with the family farm.
They were blessed with three children: First was Ruby Giddens who was born 12 Feb 1906 in Buchanan County, Missouri. She died 15 Dec 1989 in Hebron, Illinois. She was married Tibbets Rolls and they resided in Illinois. Ruby and Tibbets had three children: Janice Marie, Elizabeth Ann and Tibbets Edmond Giddens.
