Mrs. Mattie Gibson Askins of the Elk Cotton Mill Village in Fayetteville died Monday in the Lincoln County Hospital following a long illness. She was 74 years old and the wife of Edd Askins, who survives.

Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of Gallant Funeral Home with the Rev. John Watkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Melson Cemetery near Belleville.

Mrs. Askins, a native of Lincoln County, was a daughter of the late James and Carrie Smith Gibson. He was a member of the Oakhill Baptist Church.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a sister, Mrs. Jimmie Lou Fenner of Fayetteville.
