Dorothy Lee (Gibson) Biggers was born December 4, 1919, and illuminated heaven on January 28, 2011. She was the second of twelve children born to Robert Lee & Jackie Hazel (Roberts) Gibson and married J.C. Biggers on August 10, 1940. It was the best decision he ever made. They spent their first year of marriage at Stillwater where J.C. completed his degree in agriculture and Dorothy completed a semester of higher education, and then they began farming two miles west of Bixby in 1942. Dorothy Lee is survived by three of her four children; Mary Annette Hayes, John Alexander Biggers and Rebecca Ellen Coffee: however, husband J.C., son Alva Lee Biggers and son-in-law James Myron Coffee have preceded her in death. She was blessed with six grandchildren; Darrell Biggers, Shannon Biggers Killerlain, Chrystal Hayes, Melody Halperin, Owen Coffee & Kara Coffee Smith, 11 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, 9 of her siblings; Brothers, Tommy, Ralph, R.L., Jack & Mark Gibson of the greater Tulsa area and Sisters, Billie Miller & Wilma Hickman of Ardmore and Mary Ruth Wharton & Jane O'Steen of Broken Arrow. Her brother, Don Gibson and closest sister, Estelle Gibson McConnell also preceded her in death. Dorothy was ever the hard working and scholarly daughter, assisting her mother with the raising of her many brothers and sisters while becoming Valedictorian of the Bixby High School class of 1938 and winning 4-H trips to Kansas City and Chicago with her canning, scrap-booking and poultry farming. These were high accomplishments for a farm girl in post-depression Bixby, Oklahoma. As a wife and mother, she was industrious in all the homemaking skills that are so undervalued today: gardening, canning green beans, pineapples, apples and peaches and putting up corn, pecans, beef & pork. She volunteered for Bixby School, taught a Bible Study class, substitute taught, worked at the polls and aided in school programs, birthday parties & holiday specials. She made most of the clothes for her children and herself with skill as a seamstress. As a result of her good works, in 1957 Dorothy was voted Farm Woman of the Year at the Tulsa State Fair. In 1960, she left the farm for a job at the Tulsa fairgrounds and worked at the Oil Show until hired as a bookkeeper for the Tulsa County Clerk. Later, she finished her professional career by working for the County Superintendent of Schools and retired back to the family farm, continuing her Sunday School teaching and gardening. Dorothy Lee Gibson Biggers leaves a legacy of boundless love and constant encouragement to all her family and friends, and as always, a sound belief and trust in the goodness of God and in the spirit and promise of our country. Casket bearers are Robert Lee Gibson, Tommy Wilson Gibson, Jr., Ronnie Eugene Gibson, Everett Wayne Gibson, Kenneth Otis Gibson & David Alton Gibson. Music will be provided by Donna Gibson, Bill Hayes and Ruth Ann Reid. Online tributes and condolences may be left for the family at www.leonardmarkerfunerals.com.
