CANTON, IL - Wilma Imojean Chase, 73, of Canton passed away after her loss with a short battle of cancer, Monday, May 26, 2008, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C.
A celebration of Jean's life will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 275 Linden St., Canton, IL 61520 at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2008. The Rev. Stephen Knudson will officiate. Her remains will be laid to rest in the Waterford Cemetery in Lewistown, Ill.
A native of Canton, Ill., she is survived by her husband, Stephen Chase; plus three sons, Chuck, Mark (Jackie), Kevin (Laura); and her daughter, Stephanie Enders (Greg). She is also survived by two brothers, Dr. Jack Gibbs (Francenia) of Canton, Ill., and James (Dorothy) Gibbs of Jonesborough, Tenn.; and one sister, Joanne Gardner of Phoenix, Ariz.
Her parents and two sisters preceded her in death.
Before retiring in 1993 to move to Switzerland with her husband, Jean worked at Wells Fargo in Peoria, Ill., for over 20 years, where she was an award-winning mortgage banker.
Her caring and upbeat attitude touched many people.
Billy Jean had a special love for bridge, golf, exercise, gospel music and especially her eight grandchildren, two of which live close by with Stephanie and Greg Enders on Lake Keowee, Seneca, S.C.
She will be missed so very much by the many friends she has loved during her early years in the Canton area.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent (with note that the gift is being made in memory of Jean Chase) to the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center: Bridget E. Calendo, Director of Individual Giving, Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center, 512 S. Mangum Street, Suite 400, Durham, NC 27701.
