Henry Bud M. Gibbons, of South Weymouth, formerly of Dorchester, died March 28, 2010, at the age of 83. He was a graduate of Northeastern University with degrees in engineering and business administration and was a member of the Sigma Epsilon RHO Honor Society.. Mr. Gibbons was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Philippines and the Korean War. In 1943, Bud started his 51-year career with Boston Edison in the Service and Supply Department at Mass. Avenue. As a customer field coordinator, Bud personified customer service by always providing a home number so that customers could reach him, even on weekends. Joining the Weymouth Elks in 1967, Bud was one of the most active Elks in New England. He served as Exalted Ruler in 1971 and District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler in 1980. Additional accomplishments include Elk of the Year for the Massachusetts State Elks Association and the Weymouth Lodge of Elks in 1974. For 26 years, he served as secretary of the Weymouth Lodge, which largely through his efforts, was named number one in the nation for veteran service activities. He was state chairman of the Mass Elks Association, National Veteran Service Commission and Elks veterans advisor for over 20 years. He is remembered for his devotion to the veterans of our country and constant concern for others. Mr. Gibbons was the devoted and loving husband of Jean (Kelley) Gibbons for 59 years; son of the late Myles and Anne (Coyne) Gibbons; predeceased by brother, John, and sister, Eileen (Gibbons) Dempsey. Survived by relatives, several nephews, nieces and friends. Funeral from the McDonald Funeral Home, South Weymouth, at 809 Main St. (Rte. 18 opposite South Shore Hospital), Tuesday, April 6, at 9 a.m. Funeral Mass to follow in Saint Clares Church, Braintree, at 10 Oclock. Visiting hours Monday, April 5, from 4 to 8 p.m. Relatives and friends invited. Interment in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Buds memory to the South Shore Visiting Nurse Association, 100 Bay State Drive, P.O.
