First commander of the Tenth Virginia Infantry,C.S.A.
Graduated from Virginia Military Institute in 1852.
Son of Samuel and Christina Miller Gibbons;brother of William S.Gibbons.
He married Fannie Shaklett.

Killed in the Battle of McDowell.
