A plaque and memorial headstone honors Bobby in the Arcola Township Cemetery. His remains are actually buried in the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, Netherlands.

He served in the 83rd Division, 331st Infantry of Illinois, US Army during World War II. He fought in Europe and was killed during battle. He served as a Staff Saergent. He was awarded two purple hearts - one for being wounded in battle in July 1944 and the second for being killed in action.

He graduated from Arcola High School in 1943. And he married Mary Imogene Bright on Sept 1, 1943 in Arcola, IL. They were the parents of son Daniel (Danny) Gene Ghere.

The Ghere/Pullen/Reinheimer VFW Post #7862 was named in his honor.
