Ben H. Ghere Dies; Funeral Is Saturday

HomeróBen H. Ghere, 74, Homer, died at 2 p.m. Wednesday (March 13, 1963) at the Veterans Administration Hospital at Danville where he had been a patient since Sunday.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Jeanes Funeral Home, Homer, with Rev. William J. Edmunds officiating. Burial will be in Homer GAR Cemetery.
Friends may call form 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
He ws born Jan. 31, 1889, near Homer, son of Theodore M. and Rachel Belle See Ghere. He was married June 30, 1930, in Chicago to Pearl Eva Hopper, who survives.
Also surviving are a step-son, Charles L. Hopper, and two step-grandchildren, Katherine and Joe Hopper, all of Homer; a foster son, Robert Keeling of Kankakee; two brothers, Bert Ghere of Homer and Verner of Catlin; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Timmerman of Homer and Mrs. Bertha Osborn of Berkeley; and several nieces and nephews.
His parents and a sister, Mrs. Florence Haun, preceded him in death.
He was a World War I veteran, serving form April 1918 to Dec. 30, 1918. He was a charter member of the Homer American Legion Post 290 and was to have received his 45-year membership pin Wednesday night.
He was a member of the former Olive Branch Church, near Homer.
