Birth: Oct. 12, 1839
Washington County
New York, USA
Death: Aug. 22, 1916
Garfield County
Oklahoma, USA

Parents: James Getty and Mary Amanda Wheeden Getty.

Obit, Garber Sentinel, Thursday, Aug 24, 1916

Miss Elizabeth J. Getty was born in West Hebron, New York, October 12, 1839, died, at Garber, Oklahoma, at 7 am, August 22, 1916. Age 76 yrs, 10 mo and 10 days.

With her parents she moved to Greenfield, Georgia in 1854, where in 1858 she married Dr. J. W. Cameron. To this union one son, Robert Bruce, was born. She was widowed in 1864 when her husband, an officer in the Condederate army died from effects of wounds received in battle.

With her infant son in her arms Mrs. Cameron made a difficult pass through Confederate and Union lines to Odin, Illinois, where her parents moved at the beginning of the war. Through the Confederate lines she traveled as an officer's widow and through the Federal lines as a refugee.

The son preceded his mother to the Spirit World four years ago. She kept the faith and lived the gentle life of a true Christian. She united at an early age with the Presbyterian Church.

For sixteen years she lived with her sister, Mrs G. W. Sager, near Garber at whose home she died.

The funeral services were Wednesday, at 10 am at the Christian Church, conducted by Rev Burt of Enid. Interment was made in the Garber cemetery. The Rebekah lodge attended in a body. The church was beautifully decorated with living plants.

Elizabeth was a seamstress/dressmaker.

Note: It appears that Dr. John Cameron did not die during the Civil War, but married Catherine Ann "Fannie" Smith in 1866 and had five children with her.

~~Elizabeth's sister Sarah "Sadie" Getty Sager is also buried in this cemetery. Her son, Robert Bruce Cameron died in Salt Lake City, Utah.

~~Elizabeth made claim to property in Woodward, Oklahoma and proved up on it.
