"Sheila Mary Elizabeth Bloodgood passed quietly and gracefully at the age 85, at her home in New Paltz on January 30, 2006, surrounded by loved ones.
Mrs. Bloodgood was born April 10, 1920 in Colbourne, Ontario, the daughter of the late Verne and the late Anne (Ahern) Getty, of Co. Meath, Ireland.
Sheila grew up in the Bronx, met and married Clarence Bloodgood, and they resided in Jamaica, Queens for 16 years. He predeceased her May 4, 1985.
As a young woman she worked as a hatcheck girl, a masseuse, and a hospital switchbboard operator. She and Clarence moved to New Paltz, where she was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Parish. She worked at times for Hudson Valley Newspaper and Foodways Industries. She was a devoted and beloved wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed seeing friends At the Getting to Know You Club and New Paltz-Gardiner Senior Citizens.
In the early 1980's she performed in local theatre presentations of Arthur Miller's The Crucible- in which she played Rebecca Nurse – and Ibsen's The Master Builder. She loved reading, listening to music and singing, dancing, playing scrabble and Othello, and being with her family.
She is survived by her sons: Philip Corneilson of Radcliffe, Ky., Henry Otero of Far Rockaway, N.Y., Clarence R. Bloodgood of Manalapan, N.J., Michael Bloodgood of Bonnieville, Ky.; daughters: Anne Mood Chapman of New Paltz, Jane Bloodgood-Abrams of Kingston, N.Y.; Josephine Bloodgood of New Paltz, with whom she lived. Area grandchildren: Dennis and Steven Mood, Anne Mood From, Patricia Mood Laboy, Erica Camp Abrams, Fiona Abrams, Jessica, Trinity, Kyle, Craig and Byron Champman. She is also survived by a total of 26 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends living throughout the county.
She was a beautiful lady, an inspiration to many and she will be greatly missed.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Copeland Funeral Home, Inc., 162 South Putt Corners Road, New Paltz.
The funeral will be Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph´s Church, 34 South Chestnut Street, New Paltz where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Burial will follow in Wiltwyck Cemetery, Kingston.
