Elnora Getty Bobo
Elnora Getty, daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Getty, was born near West Lima in Vernon County, Wisconsin, on August 22, 1861. She was the youngest of a family of nine, and the last of the group to pass on to her Eternal Home. She spent her girlhood days at the farm home in Vernon County, (attending the Newburn Ridge School.
On September 28, 1879 she was united in marriage to David Bobo, also of Vernon County. To this union three children were born Deloa, now Mrs Scott Snow of Farmers Valley; Lily, Mrs. Elmer Baumbach, employed at the Morrow Home and Mable, now teaching in the public schools at La Crosse, Wisconsin.
From the farm in Vernon County, they moved to Richland County and later to a farm in Farmers Valley, where she resided until her death, on January 6, 1942, at the age of 80 years, 4 months and 14 days. In spite of her increasing age, her buoyant, youthful spirits were uppermost, almost to the end of life.
She was a charter member of the Farmers Valley Homemakers club, where she was always lovingly known as Grandma Bobo. At many of the gatherings, she seemed almost the life of the crowd and when she was missing, there was a vacant chair that no one else could well fill.
For many years she was a loyal follower and servant of the Christ she so dearly loved, and the welfare of her church was always upon her heart and mind. Her staunch Christian character was constantly manifested in keen interest in the welfare of others, as in the love she bestowed upon them.
To know her was to love her and only sweet uplifting memories will linger in the minds and hearts of those who knew her best. As they think of her through years to come, they will almost hear her saying words that were as typical of the life in Christ, she lived.
From the great white throne Eternal,
God Himself is looking down;
I can almost hear Him shouting,
Oh, let none take thy crown.
Besides her three daughters, she leaves to mourn her loss, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church, with Reverend A.R.Henry officiating. Mrs August Hering played the pipe organ and she and Mrs. Harry Worth sang, "Oh, Then to the Rock Let Me Fly," and "In the Garden." Pallbearers were: Wm. Benedict, Harold Loudenslayer, Melvin Foss, Jess Dupee, Harvey Willey, Robert Doten. The body was laid to rest in Mt. Hope cemetery, beside her husband, who preceded her in death, nine years ago
