Bob was the oldest son of Harold and Laura (Cramer) Gessley. He is survived by his mother Laura Friar; his wife Cheryl; his daughter Jennifer; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four stepchildren; three brothers; a step brother; snd many devoted students and friends.

He spent more than 30 years teaching vocal music to junior and senior high school students, most of them at Oak Grove, Missouri.Bob Gessley, 68, of Grain Valley, MO passed away on July 9, 2015.

Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Monday, July 13, 2015 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Graveside services will be private.

Bob was born on April 7, 1947 to Harold and Laura (Cramer) Gessley in Independence, MO. He graduated from Van Horn High School and Central Missouri State University.

Bob’s love of music can be traced back to his days of infancy, with a notation made by his mother in his baby book! For several years Bob was member of “Masters of Harmony”, a barber shop quartet. The group traveled together winning several awards.

However, Bob’s greatest passion was his students. For over 30 years Bob taught music in several area high schools, retiring as Vocal Music Director from Oak Grove High School. He was a member of Maywood Baptist Church. In his spare time he enjoyed throwing darts, watching Royals baseball, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include; his wife of 23 years, Cheryl Gessley; mother Laura Gessley Friar; daughter Jennifer Gessley Gayman; stepchildren Greg Curnett, Marlo Wahbeh, Joshua James Linn, and Jeni Rooney; brothers David Gessley, Don Gessley; Terry Gessley; step brother Terry Frair; 6 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and his special 4 legged children, Clapton and Layla.

Bob is preceded in death by his father Harold Gessley. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to your local chapter of the ASPCA. Online condolences may be expressed at www.speakschapel.com
