POCASSET Charles Chuck D. Gerstein, 86, of Pocasset, passed away at JML Care Center, Falmouth, on May 9, 2008. He was born in Boston, son of the late Rose (Malsberg) Gerstein and David Gerstein. Chuck was recently predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years Miriam Mitzi J. Gerstein. He was the devoted father of Lisa G. Taylor of Mashpee and Ronda M. Kelly of Hartford, Conn. He leaves his son-in-law, Craig D. Taylor of Mashpee; granddaughters, Lisa A. Taylor of Oregon City, Ore., Sherene Borr of Milford and Brianna Taylor of Mashpee; grandson-in-law, Steve Borr of Milford. He was the great-grandfather of Gabriella and Dylan Borr and he leaves his brother, William Greene of Auburndale. While serving in the U.S. Army, Chuck was trained in the Medical Corpsman Infantry at Valley Forge General Hospital, Pennsylvania. He transferred to Avon Convalescent Hospital for Blind Soldiers in Connecticut, where he worked with the rehabilitation of soldiers whose sight was lost during World War II. He was the owner of Fallons Pharmacy, Wellesley Hills, for several years and thereafter worked for other pharmacies until retirement. He became a Framingham town meeting member, served on the Government Study Committee and was vice chairman of the Standing Committee for Community Affairs. Chuck and Mitzi were one of the founding families of Temple Beth Am, Framingham. Chuck was politically active, an avid computer user, and published two independent newsletters that were distributed among friends and residents of the assisted living facilities where he lived. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimers Services of Cape Cod and the Islands, 712 Main St., Hyannis, MA 02601 or to Allegiance Hospice and Palliative Care, 39 Pleasant St., Sagamore, MA 02561.
