Elva S. Walker German died quietly and peacefully on Monday, March 28, 2005, at 12:02 a.m. She was 104 1/2 years old and lived an active, productive life.
She was the wife of the late Lee W. German (1896-1978), mother of Robert L. German of Pittsburgh, Pa.; three grandchildren, Robert R. German of Pittsburgh, Pa., Mark L. German of Annapolis, Md., and A. Barbara German of Hamden, Conn.; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; three nephews and three nieces.
"Memaw" to her many friends and relatives was born in Gloucester County, Va., on Nov. 10, 1900. She moved to Baltimore, Md., in 1922 and married. She attended "The Marinello School of Beauty Culture" and opened her own beauty salon in 1929. She continued working as a beautician for 65 years.
Elva and Lee moved to Stevensville, Md., on Memorial Day, 1959. In August 1997, due to her advancing age and living alone, she chose to move to Manressa, an assisted living facility in Annapolis, Md. In October 2003, she transferred to Millennium South River.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, at Andrews Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. in Bellamy United Methodist Church Cemetery by the Rev. William Will. A memorial service to celebrate her life will take place in Stevensville, Md., at a later date.
The family request that memorial donations be made to your favorite charity in her name.
