Timothy J. Gerberich was born May 21, 1957. He died February 7, 2005 in Des Moines, Iowa. Tim graduated from Waukee High School, the University of Northern Iowa and was working on his Masters at California Institute of the Arts, until an auto accident in 1981 resulted in a massive head injury. Tim was a miracle for even surviving the accident. For 23 additional years, he lived, loved and laughed, leaving neurosurgeons baffled and impressed. Tim was an original thinker, showing great promise as a conceptual artist and contemporary photographer. His life after the accident was characterized by hard work, determination and courage required to make it back to a supportable, inspirational and sustainable life. It involved many, many hands in loving support. In both of these parts of his life, humor was a sustaining force. Tim continued to draw and to create after the accident. Both bodies of his work, taken together, are revealing and poignant. Tim leaves behind his loving and devoted parents, Daniel and Betty Rose and his brother, Stephen, who carries the artistic torch, continuing as a professional artist to create art both as a desire in the human heart and as a tribute to his older brother. Tim is survived also by many old friends, new friends, church friends, fellow artists, trainers, and a long list of health care workers who have cheered him on his incredible journey. His family would like you to join in helping them celebrate Tim's victories, large and small. [Tribute from his brother Steve]
Tim raised rabbits as a youth in 4-H, hence the bunny on his marker.
