GERBER – Funeral services for Ben J. Gerber, Monroe, will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Monroe Methodist Church with Rev. Do Joo officiating; military graveside services with burial in Columbus Cemetery. Mr. Gerber died Thursday night at the age of 71.
He will lie in state at Gass-Haney Funeral Home Sunday after after [sic] 1 p.m. and Monday at the church from 12 to time of service.
He was born November 4, 1907 at rural Duncan to Rudolph and Lizzie (Schmid) Gerber. He married Katherine E. Laudenklas June 12, 1949 in Platte County and lived in Monroe all of their married life. He is a retired machinist from Behlen Manufacturing, having worked there for 25 years.
He served in the Army and Reserves for 17 years during World War II in the European Theater.
He was an active member of the Monroe Lions Club and Monroe Region Club; past member of the fire department, town and school board. He received the Good Neighbor Award in May of 1974, and served as different officers in the various clubs and public offices. He was past Platte County Legion Commander.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Monroe, baptized at Gruetli; active member of the brotherhood, served as president of the church, taught Sunday School for many years and was the Sunday School Superintendent.
He is survived by his wife; son, Gayle of Monroe; daughter, Elizabeth at home; one grandson; two granddaughters; a brother Louis Gerber of Monroe; sisters Margaret Reece, Monroe, Bertha Brown, Paxton, Neb.; one uncle; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Peggy Gerber; Sister Rose and an infant brother and infant sisters.
