Hazel Baker - GRAY
Hazel George Baker, 87, died Wednesday, December 31, 2008, at home in Gray, Tennessee.
She was born in Russell County, Virginia; daughter of the late Joe and Anna Thomas George. She was a Loving and Devoted person and a true example of a Christian. She and her husband lived very unselfish lives of service to others.
She was a graduate of Temple Hill High School and lived most of her life in Russell County, Virginia before moving to Gray, Tennessee in 1998. She was a faithful member of Lake View Union Church until moving to Tennessee where she attended Oak Grove Baptist Church in Gray, Tennessee.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, John C. Baker (September 24, 2008); one sister, Clara George; three brothers, Herbert, Deward, and Gordon George.
She is survived by one daughter, Carol Baker Douglas and husband, Ted of Gray, Tennessee; one sister, Helen Shell of Gray, Tennessee; one sister-in-law, Shirley Newman George of Suffolk, Virginia; one brother-in-law, Robert Baker of Castlewood, Virginia; two step grandchildren, Mitzie Douglas and Greg Douglas; one step great-grandson, Tyler Douglas; several special nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Hazel George Baker will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 3, 2009, in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel, Castlewood, Virginia with Rev. Larry Smith, Rev. Darryl Baker, Rev. Charlie Killen, and Rev. Ronnie Brashear officiating. Interment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens, Lebanon, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Cecil Tester, Roger Carter, Cuba Porter, Jim Campbell, Larry Hartsock, John Mason, Ted Campbell, Bill Hartsock, Scott Jessee, Mark Jessee, and Garland Fields.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 3, 2009, in Castlewood Funeral Home, Castlewood, Virginia. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to your favorite charity in Mrs. Baker's name. The family wishes to thank their special caregivers, Admedisys Home Health and Hospice for their Loving Care.
