Mercedes G. Geisler Ahner, 91, of Lower Burrell died at 7:45 a.m. Friday (Aug. 23, 2002) in Forbes Hospice, Pittsburgh, after a lingering illness.

Born Dec. 14, 1910, in West Park, Stowe Township, she lived in Tarentum most of her life.

Mrs. Ahner was a teller at the former Peoples Federal in Tarentum for 15 years before retiring in 1975. In addition, she had worked at Brady's Auto Service and as a board secretary for the former Tarentum School District.

She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in

Tarentum, the church Women's Association and finance committee, and was a Sunday School teacher. She also was a member of the

Women's Club of Allegheny Valley, Y-SOTA, AARP and board member of Tarentum Salvation Army.

Mrs. Ahner enjoyed volunteering at Sherwood Forest Theatre, Washington Township.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. John (Julia) Polczynski of Lower Burrell; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Her grandchildren are Kristen Vecchi Jackson of Virginia Beach, Va., Gregory Vecchi of Brackenridge and Jeffrey Polczynski of Laurel, Md.

Mrs. Ahner was preceded in death by her husband, William Ahner, in 1967; her parents, John Henry and Annie Cushing Geisler; and three brothers, Fred, William and Henry Geisler.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the KRYNICKI FUNERAL HOME INC., 1007 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights, Harrison. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in First United Presbyterian Church with her pastor, the Rev. Phillip Beck, officiating. Burial will follow in Prospect Cemetery, Brackenridge.
