The son of Peter & Ann (Hoffman) Geiger, in 1850 he was living with his family in East Hanover Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, and is there in the 1863-65 draft registration although not found in the 1860 census. It appears, however, that he was in the state at that time as he married Mary Ann Gault August 6, 1863, in Valley County, Idaho, and fathered Elizabeth (b. 04/02/64 - married Emanuel Hein), Katherine J. (b. 10/26/65 - married Fred Kern), George Gault (b. 06/15/69 or 08/??/68), Edward T. (b. @1871), William H. (b. 04/23/74), Simon S. (b. 12/??/77), Jean & Jennie R. (b. 04/15/82), Carrie Bertha (b. 09/??/84 - married a Kutz), Bertha May (b./d. 1887), and Ellen L. (b. 02/??/92). A farmer by trade, he stood 5' 6" tall and had sandy hair and blue eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted at the stated age of thirty-two in Harrisburg February 28, 1865, and mustered into federal service there March 7 as a private with the 101st Pennsylvania Infantry in the second organization of Co. D. Hospitalized at Morehead City, North Carolina, on June 4, he discharged the service by surgeon's certificate per general order to date June 14, 1865.

A post-war member of Harrisburg's Hartranft Post No. 58, G.A.R., he died at his daughter Katherine's home from "cerebral apoplexy" with "chronic interstitial nephritis" a contributing factor.
