Standing always in the light of His amazing grace, Margaret Bigler finished her earthly journey October 14, 2010, at the Oaks of Radford Hills in Abilene, TX.
Funeral services for Margaret Bigler, 87 of Ft. Sumner, are scheduled for Monday morning, October 18, 2010, at the Fort Sumner Church of Christ with Otho Rogers officiating and Clay Mimms as song leader. Burial will follow, beside her husband, in the Fort Sumner Cemetery with Grandsons Jerry Heflin, Tyson, Cade, and Josh Bigler, and Mark and Wes Herron as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be her great grandsons.
She was born October 2, 1923, in Rhinhardt, TX, to the home of Altie and Sam Gault. Her mother died when Margaret was age 3 months, and she grew up in the home of her maternal grandparents, Mary and Will Nelson. The family moved from east Texas to a farm south of Anton, where Margaret began first grade and went all her school years, graduating from Anton High School in 1940. She married her high school sweetheart, Emil Bigler, on January 16, 1943, in Littlefield, TX. When he was sent off to war, she stayed with her folks until his return. In 1948, the couple bought a farm north of Floyd, and built a home there. Margaret worked at Cannon Air Base a number of years, before they moved to Fort Sumner in 1973. She stayed in Fort Sumner until after the death of her husband, Emil, on December 7, 2009, when she went to live in Abilene with her daughter Kay.
Margaret was a faithful wife, a devoted Mother, and a sweet and wonderful "Mammaw" to her 10 grandchildren 18 great grandchildren. She loved the Lord, her family, and her friends. Her daily prayer was always that she be a blessing to everyone she encountered during the day. Her loving ability to encourage others, and her kind, sweet, gentle spirit made this world a much better place. She will be deeply missed, but her memory will live with us forever.
She is survived by three of her four children ~ Kay and Jearald Heflin, Abilene, TX; Faye and Travis Mitchell, Yuma, AZ; Don Bigler, Canyon Lake, TX; and a son-in-law, Bruce Herron, Albuquerque, NM. In addition to her grandchildren, she has eighteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Emil, and her youngest daughter Gayle Herron.
