The second child of Carl Henry and Martha Zahn Gaugert, my grandfather, was born May 22, 1904. He was born in Sullivan, Jefferson county, Wisconsin.
He was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church in Golden Lake (Town of Concord), Jefferson county, Wisconsin. He was also baptized from the church on April 13, 1919.
He was married to Katherine Barbara Pfeifer on August 6, 1927. They were married at St. Peter's Lutheran church in Helenville.
To this union were born the following children; Vernon (Barbara), Earl(Gladys) Doris (Mrs. EarlThom), Harold, and Lois (Mrs. John Burggraf.
He worked as a hired hand and worked with a road construction crew and went with them to Pennsylvania, in 1922. When he got married to Katherine Pfeifer, they moved to Helenville where they farmed.
Vernon was born there. They moved to the town of Jefferson, Sec. 2E, where Earl was born. Doris was born in town of Concord Sec. 2. Harold was born in Helenville and Lois was born in (while they were living at) town of Farmington Sec. 16. When they quit farming they bought a home in Johnson Creek and later a place in the town of Farmington. Wilmer worked as a carpenter and at Mid States Shoe Factory at Watertown for a number of years. Katharine worked at Hartwigs Poultry in Johnson Creek. Members of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Farmington. Katherine died June 2, 1977 and is buried on family plot at Ixonia Memorial Gardens. Wilmer sold his place May 1980 and living at Johnson Creek.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, (Agnes Sukow and Alyce Biwer.
My Grandfather passed away on February 16, 1999 at Beverly Terrace, Watertown, Dodge county, Wisconsin. The day before what would have been his sister, Agnes, ninety-six birthday. His funeral was held on the 20th from Immanuel Lutheran Church in Farmington. Pallbearers were his grandsons; Thomas, Jeffrey, and Henry Gaugert, Dale and Dean Thom, Gerald Grunewald, and Richard Woolley. With burial next to his wife, in Glenview Memorial Gardens
