BUTLER - ROYAL GATTON, 66, of 26 Cleveland Street, died Monday night at Mansfield General Hospital after suffering an apparent heart attack at his home.

He was born in Butler and had spent his lifetime in the Butler area. He graduated from Butler High School in 1927. Mr. Gatton served 37 years with the US Postal Service, 18 as Butler Postmaster. He also operated a service station and garage in Butler for 19 years.

He served as mayor of Butler for one term and on village council for two terms. He also served as the assistant fire chief for the Butler Fire Department for a number of years.
He attended the Mt. Sinai United Methodist Church in Butler.

He is survived by his wife Marian; two sons, Gene of Cuyahoga Falls and Tom of Butler; six grandchildren; two brothers, Paul of Mansfield and Robert of Cambridge and one sister, Mrs. Leora Grant of Mansfield.

Services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Mt. Sinai United Methodist Church by the Rev. Donald Earlenbaugh. Burial will be in Four Corners Cemetery (aka Zion), near Butler. Friends may call at the Snyder Funeral Home in Bellville, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and at the church after 11 a.m. Thursday.
