Daughter of Emery/Susanna Sampson.
This week the sad duty falls upon us to chronicle the death of two of our oldest and most esteemable residents, Mrs. S. Gates who passed away Saturday morning after a lingering illness of diseases incident to old age and Mrs. George Hofeld, who passed away Saturday evening, after suffering for about five months of cancer of the stomach. Altho their deaths have long been expected they were nevertheless a sad blow to the entire community. Mrs. Hofeld leaves four children, Mrs. H. S. Gates and Miss Edna, of this place, Mrs. Ross Davidson, of Kenyon, and Henry, of Campbell, to mourn her loss. All of her children were present at the time of her death. Mrs. Gates leaves one son, H. E. with whom she resided to mourn her loss. The two funerals were held Tuesday afternoon, interment being made in the Alma City Cemetery. The sorrowing relatives have the sincere sympathy of the entire community.
