Joshua Gates (Thomas2, George1), born April 26, 1708 in East Haddam, CT, baptized June 13, 1708, married, 8 July 1736, Lydia Brainerd, second daughter of Capt. Joshua and Mehitable (Dudley) Brainerd of East Haddam. He was admitted to full communion in the First Church of East Haddam, November 23, 1740. He died in East Haddam, December 22 or 23, 1791 and was buried near the First Church.

3. Lydia Gates, born September 8, 1743, baptized April 1, 1744. She accidentally drowned, February 23, ____, when the ice collapsed as her sleigh was crossing the Connecticut River. She was not married.
4. Caleb Gates, born April 1, 1746, baptized April 27, 1746, died there, February 3, 1748/9.
5. Corporal Caleb Gates, born February 9, 1749/50.
6. Jeremiah Gates, born October 24, 1754, baptized November 24, 1754, died, October 2, 1758, in East Haddam and was buried in the old Cove Cemetery.
7. Eunice Gates, born August 10, 1757, baptized September 11, 1757, died, July 29, 1814, unmarried, in East Haddam.
8. Jeremiah Gates, born November 28, 1759.
