Lillian Gary Autrey born March 7, 1928, a native of Plateau, AL (Africatown) and a resident of Greensboro, NC, died on Sunday, March 23, 2008 at Moses Cones Hospital in Greensboro, NC. Lillian attended Whitley Elementary and Mobile County Training School. She was a fourth generation direct descendant of Charlie Lewis, who came to America in 1859 on the Clotilde, the last slave ship to Mobile, AL. She was preceded in death by her parents, Napoleon and Eugenia Gary, sister, Fannie Mae Montgomery, brother, Napoleon Gary, Jr., husband, Raymond Lee Autrey, sons, Raymond Lee Autrey, Jr. Willie Earl Autrey, and Joe Louis Autrey. She leaves to cherish her memories, her devoted children, Marva (George) Johnson, Detroit, MI, Lorna (Leon) Woods, Mobile, AL, Shirley Holifield, Greenboro, NC, Lillian (Frank) Dock, Detroit, MI, Gary Autrey, Mobile, Al, Wanda Autrey and Cordelia (Michael) Dennis, Greensboro, NC, Michael Autrey, Mobile, AL; sisters, Leona Warnsley and Vera Feagin of Mobile, Al; fourteen grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; one great aunt, Louise Lewis; nieces, nephews; devoted relatives, Celestine Johnson and Dorothy Catlin; devoted friends, Annie Crenshaw, and Pearlie Dock; caregiver, Ebbie Doster. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at Reese Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral hour. Rev. Edwin Ellis, officiating. Interment will follow in the Plateau Cemetery. Arrangements are under the careful direction of Reese Funeral Home.
