Odessa Gartman of Gatesville died July 29 in a Temple hospital. She was 85.
Funeral services were held Friday at Scott's Funeral Home Chapel with ministers Rex Tilly and Deral McWhorter officiating. Burial was in Restland Cemetery.
Mrs. Gartman was born May 26, 1913, in the Harmony community of Coryell County, which is now part of the Fort Hood reservation. The daughter of the late John A. and Martha Elizabeth White, she was reared and attended school in Harmony.
On May 14, 1932, she married Murvil Gartman. They resided in the Brown's Creek community, and in 1941 moved to Turnersville where they farmed until they moved to Fort Gates in 1961. Her husband preceded her in death on Jan. 27,1993.
She was a homemaker and a member of Cedar Ridge Church of Christ.
She was also preceded in death by a son, M.D. Gartman in 1996, and by a grandson, Curtis Arlie Gartman in 1959.
Survivors include two daughters, Charlene May of Chula Vista, CA, and JoAnn Barnett of Jonesboro; two sons, Donald (Donnie) Gartman of Gatesville and Randall Gartman of Port Aransas; four sisters, Leota Wilkinson of Pearl, Freida Delano of Temple, Faye Gartman of Purmela and Doris Autrey of Temple; two brothers, Doyle White of Belton and Barney White of Temple; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Wayne Gartman, John Ward, Bob Grimes, Allen Stephens, Doug Young, Jimmie Dale Gartman, Joey Barnett and Charles Autrey.
Honorary pallbearers were Anthony White, Gary White, Billie Autrey, Darrel Delano, Ronnie Hunt, Ronald Ray, Cleddy Baize, Jim Wilkinson, Mack Wilkinson, Ray Wilkinson, David Autrey, Bill White, Wayne Songer, Roger White and Ronald White.
The family requests memorials be made to the Cedar Ridge Church of Christ.
