Lydia was the daughter of Tilman Gregg and Melissa Grubb. She married Abner Fry Rutter on Nov 29, 1890 in Lake township, Pocahontas county, IA. They were the parents of 4 children: Jacob Virgil, Harriet Verda (1893-1977), Chester Gregg, and Amy. She married 2nd Charles S Garriott on March 8, 1930 in Sac City, IA.

The Sac Sun - Thursday , March 29th, 1956 - Funeral services were held for Mrs Lydia Rutter Garriott Monday afternoon at the Christian church in Sac City. Burial was made in Oakland Cemetery, Sac City. Pall bearers were Paul Gregg, Walter Gregg, Charles Bryant, Louis Hauswirth, Homer Schnirring, and Forest Anderson.

Lydia Ann Gregg, daughter of Tilman P and Melissa Gregg, was born Dec 6, 1868 in a log cabin in Lake Creek Township, Calhoun county, IA and passed from this life at the home of her daughter, March 23, 1958 at the age of 87 years, 3 months, and 17 days.

She was united in marriage with Abner F Rutter on Nov 29, 1890. They made their home on a farm near Rockwell City until 1908, when they moved to Sac City. To this union were born 4 children: one son, Virgil passed away in childhood. Mr Rutter preceded her in death on May 17, 1923.

As mutual friends she and Charles S Garriott were married March 8, 1930 in Sac City, where they made their home. Mr Garriott passed away Jan 2, 1950.

Since 1953 Mrs Garriott had made her home with her daughter, Mrs Wm Ridgely of Rockwell City, IA.

She leaves to mourn her passing 3 children: Harriett Verda (Mrs Arthur Stembridge) Oakview, CA; Chester G Rutter, Amy (Mrs Wm Ridgely); 6 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren; also one brother, Rev Steven E Gregg, Portland, OR; children and grandchildren of Mr Garriott, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
