ORVEY H. GARRIOTT DIES LATE MONDAY

Well-Known Rural Mail Carrier Had Been Ill Two Weeks

Orvey H. Garriott, 44, well-known Callaway County rural mail carrier and stockman, died about 5 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Callaway Hospital, where he had been admitted as a patient earlier in the afternoon. He had been ill for the past two weeks.
Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Steedman Methodist Church. The Rev. O. B. Hobbs officiated and burial was in the Steedman Cemetery.
Born on April 21, 1907, near Portland, he was the son of the late Henry Fletcher Garriott and Mrs. Belle Madison Garriott, who survives.
He was married to the former Miss Dorothy Nichols near Steedman on June 16, 1928. He had operated a 40-acre stock farm near Steedman, where the family now lives, and had been a rural mail carrier for the past 26 years.
He began his employment with the Postoffice May 6, 1926, when he was 19 years old and was assigned to the Portland route for a few years before being transferred to the Steedman route. He was a member of the Callaway County Postal Employees Association.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by four sons, Orvey Henry Garriott, Jr., Eugene and David Earl, all of the home, and Clyde Garriott, who is attending Bob Jones University in South Carolina; and two daughters, Miss Barbara Garriott of Fulton, and Mrs. Lena Belle Gallatin of Killeen, Texas.
