Genevieve L. Garrigus, 96, of Grants Pass died Sunday, March 20, 2011, at Highland House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.A cryptside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Dominic Tumusiime of St. Anne Catholic Church presiding. Chapel of the Valley-L.B. Hall Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.chapel-valley.com.Garrigus was born Sept. 3, 1914, in Escanaba, Mich., to John and Mae Wilson. She later moved to Portland. In 1933, she married Jeptha T. Garrigus, who died in 2004. They moved to Seattle in 1936 and sometimes lived in Southern Oregon, when her husband's construction projects required they do so. During World War II, she worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Burien, Wash. She also operated a restaurant in Timber from 1951 to 1954. In 1975, she and her husband moved to Grants Pass from Shady Cove.She was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church and she enjoyed gardening and her family.Survivors include a son, "Gus" Garrigus of Merlin; nine grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren. Her husband, Jeptha died in 2004. A son, Theodore John Garrigus, died in 1990, and her daughter, Genevieve Marlene Shirley, died in 2005.
