St. Tammany Parish
My mother Dorothy Idalynn Garrett was the daughter of Mason Wesley Garrett and Olivia "May" Grimmett Garrett.
My parents Dorothy Idalynn Garrett and W. J. "Buster" Brooks were married 16 Mar 1946 at Oak Forest Methodist in Little Rock, Arkansas.
W. J. "Buster" Brooks and Dorothy Idalynn Garrett had 3 daughters and one son.
Dorothy's first job was at the Post Office in Little Rock, Ark. where she was an elevator operator. She later worked as a records clerk at Little Rock Medical Center. She worked as a switchboard operator for St. Joseph Hospital in Tucson, Ariz. and Barstow Community Hospital in Barstow, CA. She was also a long distance operator for Continental Telephone Company in Victorville, CA.
She died in Mandeville, St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana where she was living with my sister and her family, but she is buried in Ferndale, Arkansas in the Spring Valley Cemetery where her parents, some of her siblings and other family are buried. This is the community where my mother grew-up on her parents farm.
My parents divorced in Jun 1972. Daddy never remarried. Mother married Anthony John "AJ" Pontecorvo on 23 Feb 1983 in Las Vegas, Clark, Nevada. She and John divorced in about 1988. After her divorce from John she went back to using the surname Brooks.
Dorothy was the granddaughter of William Isaac Grimmett and his wife Sarah Adaline Chastain Grimmett. And John Lafayette Garrett and his 1st wife Eliza Fredonia "Donia" Blake.

In loving memory of my mother. "Our earthly loss is always a heavenly gain. Although our hearts hurt and mourn in humanly pain. The fact still remains the same, That Heaven Has Gained more Love, To sprinkle down from above" – By Antonio Talbert|
