Her brother Ruben and his wife Louise introduced her to Albert Brown at Harmony Baptist Church and they married on April 12, 1941 - at the preacher's house at 8:00 in the morning so she could get to work on time when the bank opened at 9. They were married for 55 years, until he passed away in 1996. During WWII Albert was stationed in Miami where she worked at the Bank of Miami and their son Jim was born. She was a hard worker and a diligent saver and investor who taught her children and grandchildren to do the same. After the war she and Albert lived with her parents until they saved enough money to pay cash for the materials to build a house. With the help of Albert's brothers they built a house on her Daddy's farm in 1950 where they lived the rest of their lives. She was raised in the Presbyterian Church and Albert in the Baptist so they compromised in raising their children and throughout their marriage attended Harmony Baptist on the 1st and 3rd and Ray Memorial Presbyterian on the 2nd and 4th Sundays. She served as church treasurer for many years and was active in Women of the Church.
